What is Polycarbonate (PC)?
Polycarbonate (PC) is an amorphous engineering thermoplastic with exceptional impact resistance, optical clarity and heat resistance. Jinsu supplies transparent PC, flame-retardant PC, silicone PC and PC/ABS alloys for lighting, electronics, automotive and construction applications.
Our transparent PC grades include UV-stabilized options for polycarbonate sheets and automotive lamp lenses; flame-retardant PC meets UL94 V-0 for electronics housings; and we can develop glass-fiber reinforced PC (e.g. PC+10%GF) for display monitor frames and electricity meter housings. PC is also the base resin of PC/ABS alloys, which improve flow and reduce stress cracking versus pure PC.
Key Properties of Polycarbonate
- ✓Outstanding impact resistance — notched Izod up to 80 kJ/m²
- ✓High optical clarity with light transmittance up to 90%
- ✓Wide service temperature range, from -40°C to over 120°C
- ✓UL94 V-0 flame-retardant grades with halogen-free options
- ✓Excellent electrical insulation and dimensional stability

Polycarbonate FAQ
What is the difference between PC and PMMA?
PC offers far higher impact strength and heat resistance but lower scratch resistance and surface hardness than PMMA (acrylic). For impact-critical or heat-exposed transparent parts choose PC; for scratch-sensitive displays PMMA is often preferred.
Does polycarbonate resist UV?
Standard PC yellows and loses impact strength under prolonged UV. UV-stabilized transparent PC grades maintain clarity and are used for sheets, skylights and automotive lamp lenses. Always specify UV stabilization for outdoor PC parts.
Can PC/ABS replace pure PC?
PC/ABS improves flow, reduces molding stress and lowers cost, with slightly reduced heat and impact versus pure PC. It is ideal for large housings where stress cracking is a concern. For maximum heat or impact, stay with PC or use reinforced grades.
What is the MOQ for polycarbonate from Jinsu?
Free samples: 5–10 kg. Trial orders: minimum 25 kg. Regular production: minimum 1,000 kg. The customer pays shipping costs.
